Meet Bala ‘Buddy,’ the goat rescued from a cliff after 4 days

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A baby goat rescued from a Waianae cliff is doing well, and will soon have a new home.
His name is Bala “Buddy,” and he’s now at the Aloha Animal Sanctuary in Kahaluu where he’s getting extra care.
He will soon have a new home with 15-year-old Lawai Diaz, who’s the sanctuary’s animal wellness manager.
“I’m very excited. I’ve actually been wanting a goat for a while now, but I’ve been waiting for the right one to come along that needed rescuing and Bala is just perfect,” said Diaz with a smile.
“You think that he would be doing very badly, but he’s actually thriving. He’s running around, he’s hopping like baby goats do,” said Rocio Tapia, Aloha Animal Sanctuary executive director.
The goat was stranded on a Waianae cliff for four days and it’s unclear how he got there. On Thursday, a group of volunteers came to the rescue.
“I just have so much love and respect for the community for the volunteers who came together to perform such an action to risk their lives for a baby goat,” said Tapia.
Aloha Animal Sanctuary rescues all sorts of neglected and abused farm animals. There’s former fighting chickens, banana-leaf-loving adult goats, a big turkey, a boar that likes belly scratches, and a 500-pound pig named Ellie.
As for Bala “Buddy,” a veterinarian now believes he’s less than a week old and will need special attention to make sure he’s eating.
